December 6, 2023

The Alaska SeaLife Center seeks a visionary, relationship-based leader to serve as its next President and CEO. The CEO will build on ASLC’s unique position in Alaska marine science to generate and share knowledge to facilitate stewardship of our environment. The new executive has the opportunity to pursue new and creative opportunities for organizational sustainability, cultivate lasting partnerships, and be a champion for ASLC with a renewed emphasis on delivering its mission in the face of impacts to Alaska’s marine ecosystems from climate change. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a strong ability to build trust and inspire others in pursuit of a shared vision.
The Leadership Opportunity
The CEO will build on ASLC’s unique position in Alaska marine science, pursuing new and creative opportunities for sustainability and establishing shared organization-wide goals that encourage collaboration and maximize outreach. ASLC has experienced a turbulent few years navigating financial deficits exacerbated by the COVID pandemic. Following the 2020 “Save the SeaLife Center” campaign, which raised significant funds, ASLC is well-positioned to renew its mission with emphasis on understanding and communicating the rapid changes to Alaska’s marine ecosystems brought about by a warming planet. The CEO will have the opportunity to build a foundation of lasting partnerships across Alaska and beyond, including deepening connections with Alaska Native cultures and communities. Advancing the work of the Center and supporting its growth, the incoming leader will focus their energy on championing ASLC and integrating social science to engage more people in the mission.
The CEO will cultivate a healthy workplace culture that attracts and retains top talent, elevates the strengths of their team, and encourages effective internal communication. Championing and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion, the CEO will ensure all staff, visitors, and partners feel welcome. ASLC’s leader will visibly demonstrate a holistic understanding of the Center that enables each ASLC staff member to appreciate their role as it relates to delivering the mission.
